INFECTION CONTROL


COURSE DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this course is to provide health care professionals and other disciplines with the basic knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to practice infection prevention and control. Subjects covered include: chain of infection, human body’s defense mechanisms, hand washing, standard precautions, universal precautions, body substance isolation, safe injection practices, transmission based precautions, environmental infection control, bloodborne diseases, cross-infection, needle stick injuries, disinfection, sterilization, personal protective equipment, waste disposal, and relevant terminology.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Name seven distinct types of elder mistreatment.
  2. Define infectious disease
  3. Define cross-infection
  4. List infectious diseases that may be transmitted or acquired in healthcare settings
  5. Describe each stage in the “chain of infection”
  6. Describe four methods of infectious disease transmission
  7. Describe three types of infectious disease contact transmission
  8. Compare and contrast antisepsis, disinfection, and sterilization
  9. List the principles of medical asepsis and surgical sepsis
  10. Identify when hands should be washed with soap and water and when use of alcohol-based hand rubs is permissible
  11. Describe three hand hygiene procedures
  12. Discuss standard precautions, universal precautions and body substance isolation
  13. Define personal protective (PPE) and its use
  14. Describe three types of transmission-based precautions
  15. Define environmental infection control
  16. Understand the psychological impact of isolation

METHOD OF COURSE GRADING: Pass/fail grading system. Course examination is multiple choice and true/false statements. METHOD OF COURSE EVALUATION: After successful completion of the course examination, a course evaluation must be submitted to info@taife.com.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION: Upon completion of the course content, examination with a passing grade of 70% and evaluation, student will receive a certificate of completion.
