AN INTRODUCTION TO CHAIN OF CUSTODY


COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides the forensic and corporate professional participant a basic knowledge of chain of custody giving them the ability to understand and identify the proper procedures for documenting the possession or custody of specimens (samples), and to recognize the importance of establishing and maintaining correct chain-of-custody procedures when handling samples. Other topics include laboratory chain of custody, sample security, labeling, storage, transfer, shipping, and disposal, glossary of related terms and associated forms.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Comprehend the terms associated with chain of custody
  2. Define the term chain of custody
  3. Understand the importance of chain of custody
  4. Describe the types of chain of custody
  5. Identify the responsibilities of the custodian of physical evidence.
  6. Understand the chain of custody for electronic evidence
  7. Identify several strategies for securing chain of custody
  8. Recognize the basics for the transfer and shipping of specimens
  9. Understand the forensic laboratory internal chain of custody procedures
  10. Understand the storage and disposal of forensic samples

METHOD OF COURSE GRADING: Pass/fail grading system. Course examination is multiple choice and true/false statements. METHOD OF COURSE EVALUATION: After successful completion of the course examination, a course evaluation must be submitted to info@taife.com.
